How Working with "Air" Supports a Calm, Creative, and Compassionate Life
Mar 24, 2025Think about the last time you felt truly light. Imagine a time when your mind was clear, your creativity flowed, and stress felt far away. What if you could create more of that?
Air is movement, open space, and possibility. It reminds us to release what we don’t need to make room for more of what matters most in our lives. This week, think about where you can make space and what you need to burn.
Fire needs air. What will you create with these two elements?
Why Air Matters
Air is movement. It’s freedom. It’s expansion. It carries our thoughts, our words, and our intentions. But it’s also space: the quiet between notes in music, the blank page before words appear, the pause before the next inhale.
When we engage with air, we shift from feeling weighed down to feeling light, from being overwhelmed to being open, from reacting to life to consciously creating it.
Air gives us permission to:
- Shake loose what we don’t need, and letting go of what no longer serves us.
- Send air into the cracks, and creating space in our schedules, thoughts, and bodies.
- Watch the white space, and honoring the quiet moments where the real work happens.
Instead of filling every moment, we make space. Instead of holding on, we release.
Turning Air into Action
To bring this idea to life, try this simple Writing Yoga® practice:
Sit
Find a quiet moment. Close your eyes. Take a slow, deep breath in, then release it. Notice the sensation of air moving through your body. Ask yourself: Where do I need more air?
Write
Set a timer for 5-10 minutes. Write freely about what air feels like. Where do you feel a sense of openness and flow? Where do you feel constricted? Where can you introduce more white space? What do you need to burn?
Move
Step outside and feel the air around you. Walk mindfully, inhaling deeply with each step. Imagine yourself clearing space, releasing stress, expectations, or anything that feels heavy, so you can invite in clarity, ease, and inspiration.
During the week, let air be your guide. Breathe deeply. Create freely. Let...go....
for the next nine weeks, we will continue to focus on a new word. Get ready to "Mix" it up next Monday!
