Can You Start Your School Year as if You Were on a Restorative Retreat? Your Dream has Come True!
Aug 26, 2024Seriously, this is a dream come true! This summer I had the pleasure of introducing over 75 school administrators to Cedarmere for the first time. They could not believe their eyes! (And ears and nose too.). It is truly a magical place and something that nearly everyone can not understand until they visit.
Where you learn matters. When we are in nature, our thinking becomes clearer and problems seem to evaporate. Think how much different your school year could be if every day was a retreat day. Of course it can't be, but when we retain the memories of a retreat and sensations of the day, it is almost just as effective!
Sound interesting? Imagine learning simple self-care skills that include writing to poetry prompts, gentle yoga, and mindful relaxation exercises. Imagine exploring one of the oldest working mills on Long Island, lounging beside the sea with native birds, and walking the grounds where poet William Cullen Bryant wrote poetry! And the gardens are off the charts!
Bryant was a civic leader and editor who commuted by boat to his Manhattan office. There was no train yet, so he helped set up the Long Island Railroad. If you take the Oyster Bay line to Grand Central or Penn Station, you can thank Bryant for making you change at Jamaica. The man was not perfect.
But let's give him a break since he did help start the New York Public Library, Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Bryant Park has a big statue of him as a thank you.
